Streetspace designs and delivers permanent buildings and covered environments for schools, colleges and trusts. The business has developed considerably since Streetspace was founded in 2012, but its foundations remain in construction and structural design. That practical understanding of how things are built continues to shape the way we approach projects today: starting with what the client needs to achieve, then developing a solution that works for the site, the budget and the realities of delivery.
Designed around day-to-day operation
Streetspace began as a specialist structures business, designing and delivering permanent steel-frame and tensile structures. Working across increasingly complex education projects broadened that capability, as clients asked us to solve challenges that went beyond the structure itself.
Projects became larger and more integrated. Covered spaces developed into substantial dining and sports facilities. Building projects brought structure, envelope, internal layout, building services and connections with existing estates into the same brief.
Streetspace evolved with that work. Today, our capability spans design, commercial management and construction, allowing us to take responsibility for the project as a whole rather than one element within it.
That construction background still matters. Design decisions are made with an understanding of buildability, programme and cost, while the people responsible for delivery are able to contribute before a scheme reaches site. It keeps the focus on developing projects that can be built as intended rather than separating design ambition from the practicalities of construction.
Structured around the way we work
Streetspace brings design, commercial and construction expertise together within the business. The intention is not simply to offer more services, but to remove the gaps that can develop when responsibility for different parts of a project sits with disconnected organisations.
Design can therefore develop alongside cost and buildability. Commercial decisions can be understood in the context of the brief rather than made after the design is substantially complete. Construction experience can inform the project early enough to make a difference.
For clients, that creates a clearer line of responsibility. The project is not repeatedly handed from one team to another as it progresses, and the people developing the scheme remain connected to the outcome they will ultimately be responsible for delivering.

Long-term relationships with education estates
Many of our client relationships continue beyond a single project. Once we understand an estate, how it operates and the priorities of the people responsible for it, that knowledge can be valuable when the next requirement emerges.
For individual schools and colleges, this may mean returning to address another part of the estate as priorities change. For trusts and larger organisations, it can mean working across different sites, where each project has its own brief but benefits from an established understanding of the client’s standards, budgets and approach to decision-making.
These relationships also allow conversations to begin earlier. Rather than arriving once a solution has already been decided, Streetspace can help clients explore what is achievable, where investment could have the greatest effect and how an emerging requirement might be turned into a viable project.
That is increasingly how we see our role: not simply as the contractor responsible for an individual building or structure, but as a design and build partner that can support the continuing improvement of an education estate.
